Business verification: the documents that actually pass
Meta's business verification is a matching exercise. It checks that the legal name, address and phone number you entered agree with the documents you uploaded and with what it can find publicly. Nearly every rejection is a mismatch rather than a judgement about your business.
The four mismatches
- Trading name entered, registered name on the document. Enter the registered name. The trading name belongs in the display name application, which is a separate fight.
- Address written differently. "4th Floor, River House" and "River House, 4th Fl" are the same place and not the same string. Copy the document exactly.
- Phone number nobody answers. Meta may call or text it. A number on an old letterhead is a failed verification.
- A website that does not corroborate. It should carry the business name, the address and a working contact.
Take a screenshot of the form before you submit. When it bounces you will want to compare what you typed against what the document says, character by character, and the form does not always show you afterwards.
What to prepare
- The registration certificate, current and legible, in a supported format.
- A second document with the same name and address - a utility bill or bank statement, dated recently.
- A website with the business name, address and phone on it, reachable without a login.
- An email address on your own domain, if you have one. A free mailbox is not a rejection, but it is one fewer signal.
How long to allow
Days to weeks, and a rejection restarts it. This is the item that should start first in any Meta project, because everything else waits on it - migrating a number, App Review, the green tick. Teams routinely discover this in week three of a four week plan.
When it bounces
The rejection reason is usually generic, which is not much help. What is reliable is that a second attempt with the same information fails the same way - so the only useful move is to change something specific before resubmitting.
- Compare the form against the document, field by field. Not by eye - read them side by side.
- Try the other document type. A bank statement and a utility bill are not equally legible to a reviewer, and one of them usually carries the address in the form the registry uses.
- Fix the website before resubmitting, if the business name and address are not on it in plain text. An image of a letterhead is not text.
- Then wait for the decision rather than submitting again. Parallel attempts do not go faster.
Verification is done once per business, not once per asset. It is shared by the Business Manager, so a company with several Pages and several numbers verifies once - which is another reason the ownership question matters: verification done inside an agency's Business Manager is verification you do not have.
Questions people actually ask
What documents does Meta accept for business verification?
Official registration documents, utility bills, bank statements and tax documents, depending on country. What matters more than the type is that the legal name and address match what you entered exactly.
Why does verification keep failing?
Usually a mismatch: the name on the document is the registered name and you entered the trading name, or the address has a different form. Meta is matching strings, not judgement.
